In spring 2021 members of the FoRBLN group completed a series of consultations, briefings and virtual meetings in East and West Africa and South Asia. These were exploratory meetings and you can read more about them on our Hubs page. The meetings brought together wide ranging groups from faith leaders to parliamentarians and civil rights activists. The meetings took place in Sierra Leone, The Gambia and Malawi as well as Pakistan with others hoped for in other countries in the future.
In this personal message produced especially for the FoRBLN, Dr Ahmed Shaheed underlines the vital importance of FoRB in order to ensure all people live in dignity and safety. Leaving noone behind is the central plank of the UN’s sustainable development goals (SDGs).
The Rapporteur also explains how FoRB is related to other important human rights such as freedom of expression.
